What makes these dogs so special?

A few years back, we decided to try something new here at Lost Creek Farm. We’d already fallen in love with Goldendoodles and Bordoodles, but we kept hearing about this amazing cross that combined Mini-Australian Shepherds, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and Poodles. We were intrigued. And when Sugar and Maggie arrived on the farm, we knew immediately that we’d made the right call.

These girls instantly became part of the family. Every animal on the farm – from the goats to the chickens to the other dogs – took to them right away. And that’s not surprising, because Australian Mountain Doodles are genuinely some of the sweetest, most loving dogs we’ve ever raised. They have this perfect mix of playful energy and gentle affection that makes them incredible family dogs.

Here’s what you get when you combine these three breeds:

From the Poodle – Intelligence and that quirky, almost human-like personality. These dogs are smart. Really smart. They pick up training quickly and love learning new things.

From the Mini-Australian Shepherd – Wit, playfulness, and athleticism. Aussies are known for being clever and fun-loving, and that absolutely comes through in these pups.

From the Bernese Mountain Dog – A gentle, loving nature and a calm demeanor. Berners are empathetic and sensitive dogs, and that temperament shines through in our Australian Mountain Doodles. They’re wonderful with kids and love nothing more than being close to their people.

Size and Coat

Our Australian Mountain Doodles are medium-sized dogs, typically ranging between 25-50 pounds when fully grown. They have beautiful, low-shed coats that are often wavy or curly – and yes, they’ll need occasional grooming to keep them looking their best. But the trade off is worth it if you’re looking for a dog with less shedding and fewer allergy issues.

English Labradoodles

English Labrador Retriever + Poodle
English labradoodle
Toffee, the F1b English Labradoodle!

For 31 years – from 1991 until just recently – the Labrador Retriever was the most popular dog breed in America. And there’s a good reason for that. Labs are loyal, loving, friendly, athletic, and make phenomenal family dogs. We love our English Labs – we really do.

But here’s the thing. What if you could get all of those amazing Lab qualities – that loyal, friendly, athletic personality – combined with the quirky, intelligent, almost human-like character that makes Doodles so special? And what if you could get that dog with much less shedding and fewer allergy concerns?

That’s the English Labradoodle.

Why English?

Our English Labradoodles come from incredible lines. We’re talking English Labs – not American Labs. English Labs are known for their stunning good looks, blocky heads, thick builds, and calm, steady temperaments. Our parent Labs have been genetically tested and have been tested for good hips, eyes, knees and elbows, so we’re starting with high-quality, genetically superior dogs.

Then when you cross those beautiful English Labs with Poodles – the second most intelligent dog breed on the planet – you get something truly special. The Lab and Poodle genetics complement each other perfectly. You end up with a smart, trainable, loving family dog with much less shedding than you’d get with a purebred Lab.

Yorkiepoos

Yorkshire Terrier + Toy-Poodle

Tiny Dogs with Giant Personalities

If you’re looking for a small dog with a huge heart and even bigger personality, let me introduce you to the YorkiePoo. These little guys pack more love, loyalty, and sass into a tiny package than you’d think possible.

What's a YorkiePoo?

YorkiePoos are a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Toy Poodle. They’re small – typically between 8-15 pounds – but don’t let that fool you. These dogs have the confidence of a German Shepherd and the devotion of a Golden Retriever. They’re spunky, smart, and absolutely adorable.

We’ve been raising Doodles here at Lost Creek for years, but when we started working with YorkiePoos, we were honestly surprised by just how much personality these little dogs have. They’re confident without being yappy (when raised right), affectionate without being needy, and playful in a way that’s genuinely entertaining to watch.

So what makes YorkiePoos special?

Here’s what you get when you cross these two incredible breeds:

From the Yorkshire Terrier – Confidence, loyalty, and that signature Yorkie spunk. These dogs are brave, devoted to their people, and surprisingly athletic for their size. Yorkies were originally bred to hunt rats in textile mills, so they’ve got that feisty terrier spirit.

From the Toy Poodle – Intelligence, trainability, and a hypoallergenic coat. Toy Poodles are one of the smartest small dog breeds, and they pass that intelligence on to their YorkiePoo puppies. They’re eager to please and love learning new tricks.

The result? A small dog that’s smart, loyal, low-shedding, and full of personality. They’re perfect for apartments, great for families, and absolutely wonderful companions for people who want a dog that can go everywhere with them.

What to expect with a YorkiePoo

Size: Most of our YorkiePoos will be between 8-12 pounds when fully grown. They’re true lap dogs – small enough to take with you just about anywhere.

Coat: YorkiePoos have soft, wavy or curly coats that shed very little…if at all. This makes them a great choice for people with allergies. But like all Doodles, they’ll need occasional grooming to keep their coats healthy and mat-free.

Temperament: These are confident, affectionate little dogs. They bond strongly with their families and love being involved in whatever you’re doing. They’re typically good with kids (though because they’re small, they do better with older, more careful children), and they can get along well with other pets when properly socialized.

Energy Level: YorkiePoos are playful and energetic, but their exercise needs are manageable. A couple of short walks and some playtime each day will keep them happy. They’re just as content snuggling on the couch as they are playing fetch in the backyard.

Intelligence: These dogs are SMART. Like scary smart. They pick up training quickly and love having a job to do – even if that job is just learning new tricks to show off to visitors.

Are YorkiePoos the right fit for you?

YorkiePoos are perfect for families or individuals who want a small, portable dog that’s easy to manage but still has plenty of personality. They’re great for apartment living, they travel well, and they make wonderful companions for people who want a dog that can be by their side most of the time.

But here’s the honest truth: because they’re small and because they bond so strongly with their people, YorkiePoos can develop separation anxiety if left alone for long periods. They’re not the best choice if you’re gone all day, every day. They want to be with you, and they do best in homes where someone is around most of the time.

Also, like all small dogs, they need to be handled gently – especially by young children. We always recommend supervising interactions between small dogs and little kids to make sure everyone stays safe and happy.
