Retiring Adult Dogs
From time to time, we have adult dogs that retire from our program. Our adult dogs are not kept in cages; they are excellent dogs, healthy and all well socialized. Our adult dogs spend time inside the house as well as outside on the farm. They get to play with other dogs (varying breeds, sizes and ages) and also spend time around other animals such as chickens, goats, ducks, cats and guinea hens, besides humans of all ages. These are terrific dogs and are sometimes a good option for a family in search of a well-behaved, loving older dog.
Guardian Home Program
Even though we have plenty of space at the farm, we like to limit the number of adult dogs that we have here with us at any given time. We do this for several reasons, most importantly dog health, but also to ensure that every dog gets plenty of attention and love as they grow and mature. Additionally, we’re constantly improving our lines and therefore routinely bring on new dogs for the program. Those new dogs could be our puppies we’ve selected to keep, or dogs from other breeders around the country. In both scenarios, we’ve chosen to add a new dog to the program because he/she is a terrific fit. We desire impeccable genetics; high intelligence; and desirable size, coloring, personality and temperament.
Our Guardian Home Program helps us accomplish these goals. We’re committed to providing a wonderful life for our dogs and guardian homes are often a terrific option.
Is the Guardian Home Program right for you?
In order to be considered as a Guardian Home, you must live within 250 miles of our home, and be relatively flexible for dropping off and picking up the dog for health testing, breeding, and whelping puppies.
As a Guardian Home, you get a free puppy (our pick of the litter) and you become that puppy’s forever home. Lost Creek retains breeding rights for a certain number of litters and ending once the female has whelped a set number of litters. Each Guardian Dog Contract is unique and is designed to work perfectly for both Lost Creek and the guardian family. Male dogs are less frequently involved, but we will consider this as an option.
A few last notes…
The guardian family will need to learn the signs of a heat cycle and be willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with us. Because of canine venereal diseases and other factors, male dogs can only mate with approved females. The guardian family, therefore, is responsible for keeping the male away from intact female dogs.
While not perfect for everyone, our Guardian Home Program can be a “win-win” situation. The guardian families receive a gorgeous “pick of the litter” quality puppy for free,and we have the satisfaction of knowing that our breeding dogs are living life as loved, cherished family members with all the attention they deserve!
