These amazing dogs are what you get when you cross a Border Collie (ranked #1 in canine intelligence) with a Poodle (ranked #2). Yes, you read that right – the two smartest dog breeds in the world, combined into one incredible family member.
We’re proud to offer Bordoodle puppies here at Lost Creek Kennels. Also known as Borderdoodles, these dogs bring together the best of both worlds: the incredible intelligence, trainability and loyalty of the Border Collie with the brilliance, silly playfulness and low-shedding coat of the Poodle.
Why Bordoodles Are So Special
They're Scary Smart
The first thing people notice about Bordoodles is their intelligence. These dogs are really smart – sometimes almost eerily so. I’ve watched 8-week-old Bordoodle puppies learn commands that some breeds struggle with at 6 months. Click here to see Sophie being trained at just 8 1/2 weeks old!
Perfect for Active Families
If your family loves to stay active, Bordoodles are ideal companions. They thrive on adventure – whether that’s walks around the neighborhood, frisbee at the park, hiking trails, or trips to the lake. Poodles are water dogs by nature, so if you introduce your Bordoodle to water early, they’ll likely love swimming in lakes or playing at the beach.
But here’s the best part: while they love activity and mental stimulation, our Bordoodles also have what we call an “off-switch.” They’ll happily settle down at the end of the day for some quality snuggle time. They’re not hyperactive tornadoes – they’re devoted companions who know when it’s time to work and when it’s time to relax.
Loyal and Loving
Bordoodles form incredibly strong bonds with their families. They’re characterized by their loyalty and affection, and many owners tell us their Bordoodle seems to understand them on an almost human level. These aren’t just pets – they become true members of the family.
Beautiful Variety of Colors
Our upcoming Bordoodle litters will feature an amazing variety of colors including black & white and red & white partis (some with traditional Border Collie patterns) blue merles, red merles and some solids. These medium-sized dogs (typically 35-55 pounds) adapt well to almost any lifestyle and are suitable for families of various sizes.
What About Shedding?
“I love Border Collies, but I just can’t deal with the shedding.”
We’ve heard this so many times! The good news? Because Bordoodles are part Poodle, they typically shed far less than purebred Border Collies. This makes them a great option if you want that Border Collie intelligence and temperament without the constant vacuuming. And of you’re extra sensitive to shedding or allergies, we’ll also have F1b Bordoodles that tend to be even better in these ways. Of course, the trade-off is grooming. Dogs that shed less need to be groomed more. But with regular brushing at home and occasional professional grooming, your Bordoodle will look and feel great.
